Transition Into Society, Inc. (TIS), formerly known as Transitioning into Society, Inc. was founded by Dr. Thomas Ryer and late wife, Lisa Ryer in 2011. While serving as an Assistant Chaplain in a New York State Correctional Facility, Dr. Ryer’s vision developed into a mission to one day provide former inmates with community resources through his organization, as a way to help heal individuals and families whose lives have been impacted by incarceration. These basic resources include mental health intervention, stable housing, employment opportunities, family and community support.
It was Dr. Ryer and Lisa’s dream to create programs that would advance the lives of clients in becoming empowered, productive citizens in their respective communities. Now, under Dr. Thomas Ryer and Mrs. Monique Ryer, Transition Into Society, Inc. is slated to become the preeminent organization for structural transformation and healing for individuals and families affected by the prison industrial complex. |
As Executive Director of TIS, Inc., Monique Ryer’s approach to helping communities and families affected by inadequate mental health, housing and financial challenges is extensive and well-informed. With two decades of non-profit service in management and leadership, stemming from a professional career in social services, Monique’s experience has assisted individuals who have been affected by social, emotional, economic, residential and substance use challenges meet their interpersonal, educational, and professional goals through her consulting, training, and advocacy.
As a valuable partner to her husband, Dr. Ryer, Monique continues to help move TIS, Inc. into the realm of lasting impact and change for youth, adults, and families impacted by incarceration and reintegrating into society. |
